Read full description of the books The Second Great Dune Trilogy: God Emperor of Dune/Heretics of Dune/Chapter House Dune:
In these last three installments of Frank Herbert’s Dune Chronicles, the pace slows way down. The vast majority of these books are the philosophical musings of the characters - which I didn't always agree with (things like the extreme relativism put forth and Taoist concepts such as P’u). I believe in absolutes - particularly in the moral realm. Might it be fashionable to say otherwise? Sure, but certain sets of behavior will always be wrong (rape, pedophilia, murder of the innocent, etc.). Is it good to keep an open mind? Yes, but sometimes preconceived notions can give you insight into a situation - as long as you're willing to let them be shattered or adjusted by new evidence.
God Emperor of Dune picks up roughly 3,000 years after Children of Dune, we take a trip through the mind of Leto II - well along the way on his Golden Path. Leto is tyrant, mystic, monster, and mis-understood savior of humanity all rolled into one; a vast accumulation of ancestors and the terrible inhuman worm...
The last two novels take up the story roughly 5,000 years after the death of Leto II, and focus on the Bene Gesserit’s fight for survival and re-instatement of a Dune-like ecosystem on their planet headquarters, Chapterhouse. The main antagonists, the Honored Matres, seem a bit far-fetched. Their main weapon is sexual slavery (making willing slaves by means of their sexual prowess); which, the whole idea seems rather juvenile to me. We get to know the Bene Gesserit much more intimately, which gives them a touch of humanity that was, for the most part, formerly lacking.
All in all, I think I could've stopped after Children of Dune...
