Read full description of the books D.N.Angel, Vol. 4:
*This series is receiving a rating of 4 stars, and for organizational purposes, I'll be placing this review on every volume.*
D.N. Angel is a 15 volume, 74 chapter (if I'm not mistaken) long series. This series is technically ongoing, as it has not been finished. However, I'm not going to hold my breath that it ever will be finished, as it's on hiatus again. The author has a habit of not finishing series, it seems. I gave this series 4 stars because it's adorable, and generally it's an interesting concept. I also give it 4 stars for nostalgia reasons- this is what got me into anime to begin with and manga, though I'm not really a fan of it anymore- but I can't give it 5 stars because it's not finished.
I remember not liking all of the arcs, and finding some characters annoying- yes, including Risa, even though she does improve later on, I still did not like her- but also enjoying most of the characters. The character development is pretty damn spot on, too. Honestly, there isn't much in the way of plot development, because this is a character driven story. It also unfinished, so there's that too.
I don't know how many times I'm going to say that but: THIS SERIES IS UNFINISHED. IT WILL PROBABLY NEVER BE FINISHED, OR IF IT IS FINISHED, IT WILL NOT BE FINISHED IN THE NEAR FUTURE. Like seriously, there is no ending for this ANYWHERE. It's just not there.
And as a reader, who tends to prefer series be finished before she starts to read them, or at least close to finishing so that when I start it'll be finished by the time I'm on the last book, that's the most frustrating thing. I realize I'm repeating myself but that's because this is a matter of importance. It felt like a waste of time to read this manga in what is its entirety so far because there is nothing happening at the end. It's just chapters. There is no redemption, no final love- this is a love story, I hope y'all know that- or romantic ending, no major plot points getting finalized, no major character development that makes you think that all of the characters are in a happy place.
While I loved how cute this story could be, how interesting it was, I wouldn't recommend it just because of it's near constant hiatus status. If you still want to go for it, be my guest, but I'm not going to reread this if I get nothing out of it but cute feels with no ending.
Read information about the authorYukiru Sugisaki (杉崎 ゆきる in Japanese) is a Japanese manga artist. Her hobbies are dramas, video games, and "collecting rabbit things".
Sugisaki's face is rarely seen, as she prefers to draw herself with a rabbit face or mask in her manga profile images. She also seems to have developed a trait of leaving her series unfinished before moving on to different projects (Notably D.N.Angel, which has seen multiple month-long droughts between chapters. She has just recently done many Lagoon Engine installments, including the Japanese release of volume 7.
Previous to that, she completed a small series entitled Eden, which had its debut in the October 2006 issue of Shōnen Ace, and finished in February 2007. It saw a departure of sorts from Sugisaki's previous series, with a darker, sci-fi noir theme and older protagonists.
Currently, she is reviving D.N.Angel with new chapters every month.
She made her debut in "Asuka Magazine" with "Namaiki no N". Her other works include "D.N.Angel (13 volumes, unfinished) ", "Rizelmine (1 volume, finished)", "Lagoon Engine (7 volumes, unfinished)", and "Lagoon Engine Einsatz (1 volume, unfinished)". Her "D.N.Angel" manga and "Rizelmine" manga have also been adapted into anime series. Because the D.N.Angel manga was incomplete at the time, the anime has many differences to the original manga, most notably the ending.
Sugisaki is also the artist of the "BrainPowerd" and "The Candidate for Goddess" manga, both of which have been turned into an anime. Her "Neutral" artbook contains artwork from "D.N.Angel", "BrainPowerd", and "The Candidate for Goddess". Her second artbook, [FEDER:] (which is no longer available for purchase), contains newer artwork solely from D.N.Angel. She has also penned the well-known "Sotsugyo M", and created doujinshi for series such as "Tenkuu no Escaflowne", Neon Genesis Evangelion, Lets&Go , and King of Fighters.
Most of her works feature young, cute main characters and elements of Yaoi, though not considered Yaoi.
Her current project is D.N.Angel, which has finally begun serializing in Monthly Asuka again.
