Read full description of the books Eeek! The runaway alien:
"Laugh out loud funny!" A match made in heaven for soccer fans aged 7-10.
Eleven-year-old Charlie Spruit can't believe his luck when he opens his door to an alien one morning. Who is he? Why has he come? Charlie soon discovers that this alien has run away from space to Earth to be with him because he's soccer mad and the World Cup is on...!
'Eeek, ' as Charlie decides to call him, takes up secret residence in Charlie's bedroom where he sleeps on the ceiling by night and pores over Charlie's football magazines and stickers by day. All is going surprisingly well until slimy sci-fi mad Sid Spiker, who lives out the back, spots Eeek through his telescope. Sid has his own plans for this alien, which bring surprises that no-one could have imagined...
Fun black and white illustrations throughout.
Praise for Eeek!
Eeek! has been praised by teachers, reading charities and parents as a great book for boys age 7-10, including reluctant readers, and several UK schools have adopted it for Year 2 or Year 3 class readers or children's books clubs. Girls who love football love it too!
Read information about the authorI'm a children's author based in London, UK and I write for children from ages 3-11. I have two boys who inspired me to write when they were younger.
My first children's book, The Secret Lake, is about Stella (aged 11) and Tom (aged 8) who find a secret time tunnel and lake that take them to their home and the children living there 100 years in the past. It has been enjoyed by over 7,000 children since publication in 2011 - something that makes me smile! A year later came, 'Eeek! The Runaway Alien', about a soccer-mad alien who runs away to Earth for the World Cup :-). Eeek! has black and white illustrations throughout and continues to prove a huge hit with boys and girls age 7-10, including releuctant readers. My rhyming picture book for ages 3-5, 'Ferdinand Fox's Big Sleep' (2013), is based on the true story of a fox that once fell asleep in my garden. With its vibrant illustrations and wonderful rhyme, Ferdinand Fox is very popular at school events with younger children. The story is also available as an educational interactive bookapp for iPad - narrated by me. 'Henry Haynes and the Great Escape' (2014), is another fun and fast-paced graphic novel, this time for ages 6-8, and is about a boy who falls inside his library book after complaining that it's boring :) My latest children's book, 'Walter Brown and the Magcician's Hat' is due out on 10 May 2016. This a graphic novel for ages 7-9 about a boy who inherits a magician's hat from his Great-grandpa Horace on his 10th birthday When he puts the hat on he discovers that it has special powers, and that his cat 'Sixpence' is no ordinary cat... Walter Brown is available for pre-order from Amazon and other bookshops.
"By day" I'm a copywriter and web content strategist. I took a much needed one-year sabbatical in 2011 and was able to focus on my children's writing. This allowed me to pull The Secret Lake from a box where it had sat hidden for 10 years - and the rest is history! I'm now back working very much part-time and mainly writing for children. I regularly go into schools and have had many book signings in local branches of Waterstones in London over the years.
My two sons are now grown up - one has a law training contract after graduating from Oxford, the other has recenlty graduated with a film degree and spends a lot of his time writing - watch this space :-)
I have lived in New York, Oslo and France - and I speak Norwegian and French :)
